Because all the practitioners on this site are Clinical Psychologists, their patients are eligible for the Clinical Psychologist specialist rebate from Medicare when they have an appropriate referral from their medical doctor. This rebate is significantly higher than that available for consultations with generalist psychologists, social workers, and occupational therapists.

While some Clinical Psychologists bulk-bill under certain circumstances, you should be aware that you will often be required to pay a gap fee between the Clinical Psychologist's fee and the rebate provided by Medicare.

The Clinical Psychology Medicare rebate (the amount that Medicare refunds you for a consultation) is currently just over $117 for sessions of at least 50 minutes. These rebates are periodically increased to keep up with inflation. Under this scheme patients are entitled to rebates for up to 12, or in some cases 18, sessions per calander year.

In order to qualify for a rebate you will need to have either a mental health treatment plan referral from a GP, OR a referral from a psychiatrist OR a referral from a paediatrician.

If you are not claiming under Medicare, Private Health Insurance funds usually provide rebates for consultations with Clinical Psychologists if you have the appropriate cover. We recommend you check with your health fund before your consultation to see if you are covered.
